Practice works best when everyone feels welcome.

Reporting, blocking, host controls, and our moderation team work together so you stay in control of your experience.

Zero tolerance

Harassment, hate, grooming, and scams have no place here.

Severe abuse leads to immediate account action and, where the law requires it, outside reporting.

Your controls

Block, report, mute, or just walk away.

You can stop contact with anyone at any time, and remove yourself from any room or community instantly.

Hosts have tools too

Live cafes are actively moderated.

Hosts can mute, remove, and manage speakers in real time so conversations stay constructive.

Standards

What we don’t allow

Language Cafe is for respectful learning and conversation. The behavior below is never allowed, anywhere in the service.

Abuse & exploitation

  • Harassment, bullying, stalking, or targeted intimidation
  • Threats of violence or coercion toward self-harm
  • Any sexual content involving minors, grooming, or exploitation

Deception & scams

  • Impersonation or fake relationship claims
  • Scams, phishing, fraud, or manipulative fundraising
  • Sharing someone’s private information without permission

Hate & discrimination

  • Slurs or hate speech aimed at protected characteristics
  • Dehumanizing, violent, or identity-based abuse
  • Coordinating harassment of a person or group

DMs

Direct messages

Messaging helps practice continue between sessions. A few rules of thumb keep it healthy.

  • A first message from a stranger arrives as a request, not an open chat.
  • If contact is unwanted, stop replying and use Block.
  • Report scams, sexual content, impersonation, threats, and repeated harassment.
  • Never share passwords, verification codes, or payment details in chat.

Public spaces

Communities & cafes

Group spaces and live rooms involve more people, so they come with more tools.

In communities

  • Group rules set expectations for the conversation.
  • Choose public, request-only, or invite-only access.
  • Report harmful posts early — before it escalates.

In live cafes

  • Hosts can mute, remove, or move people on and off the stage.
  • You can leave any room at any time — no questions asked.
  • Recording a room without everyone’s permission is not allowed.

Tools

Report & block

In-app reports give us the most useful context — the user, message, or post is attached automatically.

Report reasons

  • Spam or scams
  • Harassment or hate
  • Impersonation
  • Sexual content
  • Violence or threats
  • Other harmful conduct

What blocking does

  • Stops normal contact paths with that account.
  • Cuts off unwanted messages.
  • Combines well with a report if rules were broken.

Escalation

  • Open a support ticket if you need to explain further.
  • Use the report category for moderation follow-up.
  • Email us if the app is inaccessible.

Action

What we do about it

Moderators act based on severity, evidence, risk to others, and past behavior.

  • Warnings or guidance for minor issues
  • Content removal or visibility limits
  • Conversation closure, room removal, or feature restrictions
  • Temporary suspensions or permanent bans
  • Outside reporting where law requires it

Personal safety

Tips for staying safe

Product tools help — common sense helps more.

  • Keep early conversations on Language Cafe until you trust someone.
  • Be careful about sharing your location or moving to other apps.
  • Trust your instincts — leave any room or chat that feels off.
  • Language Cafe isn’t an emergency service. If someone’s in immediate danger, call local emergency services first.
